As I am new to the Harley world i am starting the good old job of researching everything about the new venture as you do with all other ventures. So recently i purchased a 1988 FLHTC Glide which was in my price range, This cost me all the money i saved from working in the War torn Gulf.
So now that I am saving some cash to spruce up the hog, I was wondering, are there upgrade kits for the older models. Yes i know some will say hey why not just buy a newer one. well this 88 version cost €10,000.00 with a compleatly refurbished engine, breaks etc....
and a 2007 model cost in the range of €27,000.00 so it will take me another 4 tours of the mid east to be able to afford this. So i would at the moment rather buy sheeps clothing for my old dear just to give it that freash feeling as the body work is looking a bit rough.
So if anyone know of any Upgrade body kits or how to dressup an old model with new faring i would be most grasious.
Thanks for your service first of all!
Secondly, NEVER apologize for owning a "vintage" bike.
At most rallies or gatherings, it seems that the shiny, chromed out, custom painted newer bikes get a glancing look by most guys. But, if there's a vintage bike in the area, no matter how rough of condition, it will attract the biggest crowd.
Congrats and good luck!
Swapmeets, ebay, dealer take-offs, internet groups, local Harley groups, etc. All are good places to look for fresh parts for your bike. There's nothing easier to refurbish, or customize than a Harley. Just start lookin' around, & post what you need, someone here may have what you want.
J&P Cycles has a Vintage catalog you can order. They also have a web site. I don't think you'll find much body work, but you might find some stuff you'll need.
If you still have the original fairing take it to a fiberglass expert and see if it could be salvaged. Old bikes are better and more valuable the more original parts they have. If you don't know a fiberglass guy check with a boatyard.
Well everything is original so thats a plus. Due to Harley Stock Radios will not pickup radio stations in europe. Well half of the stations because all American built radios will only choose Odd Channels and not even chanels then it doesnt really work here in europe.
 \\;
I would love to go to Harly swap meets but there are no real meets here in europe as every spare is used until it falls to peices. Most things are sold before they are replaced by newer. For example i know some one who is putiing in a new dash and all the parts for the old one is alread sold.
 \\;
Here in Europe harleys are for the Rich for example as \\;I said \\;I purchased the 88 FLHTC for €10,000.00 = $15,000.00 \\;I could buy two brand new japs for that price. So when looking for parts it would be cheaper to fly to the states go to all the spare locations and pack them in a conatiner and sell them here.
 \\;
Thanks for the advise
That may just be an option. You may want to check out the area on the site which people are giving away items, I myself have a box of take off including mufflers. It would be an honor to let you have them. Find someone on the east coast that will collect them for you and then either send them out or make a trip.
