Default RE: Hydrogen in Tires???

I stopped at my local tire store and asked what they charge
to put Nitrogen in the tires. The guy says 4.00 per tire.
I had Nitrogen put in my tires. Went to pay, only had a 100.00
dollar bill.(thought I was buying HD Nitrogen)
He said he could not break a large bill.

Got free Nitrogen[8D].

Not saying good or bad as I don't really know.

It is just another way for them to make money IMO, air that is in the tires is already NO2 , it is not worth it on a normal ride, just watch the air presure in the tires , it is all good.
The Nitrogen is good for tires that have extreme temp change that is about it.

I work for a major compressed and liquefied gas manufacturer and distributor. Pure air is approx. 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen and traces of other gases. Moisture is a minimal consideration of why pure nitrogen is used in racing tires. It is the consistent expansion rate based on heating of the tire under racing conditions.

There is absolutely no reason to run nitrogen in the tires on the street. I do know of a few shops that have a ntrogen cylinder hooked up to a fill hose as a convenience and a selling point, but there is no scientific reason to run it on a street motorcycle.

I wish I could remember the specifics but.... I think for every 5F change in air temp you can expect a 1psi change in tire pressure (maybe it was 10F) anyway if you live in a region that has a great deal of temperature variation (ie. ALASKA, ARIZONA, and many others I'm sure) You would not have to constantly adjust your tire pressure back to the "recommended" setpoint. Costco uses nitrogen for car tires now (at least the three that I have been to). I don't think its at all neccessary but I'd pay the $4.00 per tire just because I've overpaid for everything else on the bike, why should I accept free air???

Agreed on all above...I think I will stick with my current mixture of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen etc. Thanks for the feedback and thanks to TxRedneck for the reference to theprevious 'slayings' (5 pages worth)on this subject back in Sep-Dec 2007.

Got it inmy bike....feels light as a feather, effortless steering, vitually no tire wear, like riding on a cloud..bumps on the road? What bumps???...never feel them, bike floats over them!!!

Honestly, can't feel adifference...only paid $4 for both tires....I said, what the heck....what's $4bucks when we're used to spending a hell of a lot more money for other HD things, right???[sm=confused06.gif]

By calculating my miles I am due in a month for a new rear tire but Ihave to say I still have a significant amountof thread left, so I might be able to squeeze a few more thousands miles out of it, a coincidence???? Who knows??? Someones gotta be the guinea pig!!

I agree that nitrogen is not the worth the money or the effort for bikes. Yes it is used in racing and in the aircraft industry where high heat is caused in use but thats about it.

WASTE OF MONEY
MAQRKETING SCAM AGAIN.
NITROGEN IS LESS SENSITIVE TO EXPANSION RATES.
BEEN IN AVIATION FOR 30 YRS,, USED IN TIRES,BLOW DOWN BOTTLES ACCUMULATORS ETC,FOR TEMPS AT 80 BELOW AT ALTITUDE.

IT'S THE "NEW" THING THATS A WASTE OF MONEY
