can't get jiffy stand to stay on / broken spring, or wrong way to install?

Nice video, always wondered how that was replaced. My buddy was on the highway when his spring broke on his Ultra. Just flopping around. Pulled into a station and leaned the bike up enough to rig it.. This would suck on the road.
