check the frame where the spring hooks in, are there different ring locations? Is the new stand OE or aftermarket, aftermarket may have a different spring hookup location than OE, Finally where the stand slides into the bracket at the frame is it a snug fit, are the bolts tightened up, an aftermarket stand may need to be shimmed. Hope this helps.

Did you try using the original spring? New one may be too strong due to being shorter, to let it stay where it is supposed to be and is not allowing it to sit where it should.
If the jiffy stand sits where it should with out the spring, look at the spring.
