Default WTF Kickstand spring hell!

Ordered a spring for my 87 EG from my stealer for $6. Took 2 weeks to arrive!

Went to put it on, by myself and stretched the spring to hook it on, I could barely muster up the required pulling force to get it to hook onto the tab.

NOW I have somehow over stretched the spring and the stand is WORSE than the old spring.

I cannot use the old one as it no longer works from removal as well. Same problem..

WHAT is the trick? Keep in mind I was alone when doing this...maybe I should have had someone hold the bike up and took the weight off the spring?

Dammit I am pissed now.

Never done one, are you supposed to have it in the "open" position?

Less stress on the spring?

Sounds like a job for a lift I guess.

Sorry for your grief. $6.00 ain't so bad, the 2 week wait kinda sucks though.

Open? I did it with the stand holding up the bike...I take it you mean with the stand up? I will try that next time.....in about 2 weeks

When I pulled the center stand spring from my Ninja, I used coins in the coils of the spring to stretch it out to make removal and re-instillation easier. with a new spring, you can bend it and place coins or washers between the coils. this will expand the spring without stretching it. once on, just pull the coins or washer out and the spring contracts.

hope this helps, though might be to late for your spring.

I tell ya I thought my nuts were connected to the opposite end of the spring I was pulling on! I bet I had 300# of force trying to just catch the hole in that tab!

If memory serves I believe you should replace it with the jiffy stand in the up position.

Cool, guess I gotta find someone I trust to hold er up while I put my self in risk of a crushing death while I do this. Not going to try it alone.

You want to installed it via the shortest distance so it does not over stretch.
