Is there a trick to putting a new spring on... think I will just take it all off and start again, but the opposite end to the actual jiffy, the reataining screw is just turning not undoing, is there a nut the other, end the parts book seems to indicate a fixed threaded screw pin.
This is a pain laying on yer back...

That's an understatement...............
Just some really good needle nose pliers/vise grips, and a strong screw driver to slide the spring end up over onto the groove. An extra set of hands/arms (big ones) doesn't hurt either.
Have someone sit on the bike and keep it up, leaned slightly right. You can then maneuver the actual kickstand to a position with more play for the spring. I got a new spring and pin on in about 2 minutes just recently.
Aye yer right got a mate coming over to do exactly that....!!!
