I think I am going with the factory 16's and either powdercoating them black or chroming them

I did I lowered the front an inch and lowered the rear an additional inch with blocks. I actually got used to it until I rode my friends with 16's

The change probaly looked pretty good. But you changed the geometry on the bike making the whole setup ride different. Not to mention if yer not tall enough for the change. Bet it made it a little more top heavy.
Its hard to beat a pair of 16's.
