Default Best mod ever!!

Well it seems as though the forum is running a little better so I thought I'd post this since I have been waiting to say quite a bit.

I have had a 24 tooth compensator sprocket and an energyone clutch since last year, I have been waiting to install them since I was going to do the clutch basket to get the 3.31 gearing.

Since I did the motor the first winter after buying the bike, my wife was a bit pissed at me do to the lack of attention she was getting. I had run into some problems with mapping and was pretty much obsessing over the fix. If you have ever torn down something and put it back together and have it not run right you know what I mean. So for that I dont blame her, someone once told me the most important thing is not only to love them but to make them feel it.

Anyway I got the thing running and immediately went on a 5 day trip with a few buddies (added a bit more tension with mama). I was happy with the way it was running knowing that I would have it tunned once I returned. On the trip I pretty much knocked the snots out of it and it seemed to be a bit noisy. That began the lifter noise chase, if your interested just search my handle and you will see the many questions I had reading this.

In researching the fix I came accross the primary noise topics, so I bought an HB 125 and that helped with shifting and neutral but not the noise. I had a noise on decel/no load that sounded just like an old Ford lifter rattle. Never was able to get it right which made me a bit un happy and kinda wishing I had never messed with the bike at all. Soooooooooooooooooooooo

My wife went out of town and I was a bit bored and figured since things are a bit tight I may as well put in the parts I have and do a little testing. Saturday after a long day at work I hopped on the forum researched for a little refresher on some tools needed and went in to the garage to have at it.

Like it says in the forum it took me about 3 hours, I had reused the gaskets and fired her up about 1am. To my surprise I had graduated from a lifter tick to a full blown knock? This absolutely made me want to cry!

I emidiatley consulted the almighty forum with a post and went to bed going over again and again the procedure trying to remember if I had hosed something up.

In the morning I was up at 5am getting ready for work (I have a weird on off schedule) dropped into the forum and had two replies suggesting the compensator shim. So at work, a little more research and I was off to the dealer at lunch for the shim and NEW gaskets for this time around.

Here is where it gets real good! I did the whole R and R again barley could get the comp nut off because of so much red loctite! This made me feel real good do to all the press on that whole topic. So I get the thing back together start it up and to my surprise no noise! I mean absolutly none, no lifter rattle nothing!! I took it for a short test ride, enough to get her hot to check for anything wrong and parked her and went to bed.

The next morning I loaded her up and took off on a trip to Michigan to hook up with my wife. I can not believe the difference in the performance and mechanical sound of this bike! I have been bitching about having to constantly shift in and out of 3rd and 4th and the lugging over all sluggishness of the bike. This was all adding to the wonderment of should I have done any of the motor work feeling.

Well with the 24 tooth sprocket and clutch install the testing has proved total wonders!! This thing is great in all gears it runs the best it has and I cant stop wondering why I waited so long! I have also concluded that I do not need to change the basket since it is performing so well!

My suggestion to any 06 baggers is change that compensator you wont be sorry! Some may say you will need the 6 speed but for me right now it is A.O.K.!!
