Default Trans whine gone

Yesterday i drained the Harley synthetic oil from my bike transmisson and replaced it with Amsoil 75-140. What a difference No more clunk when shifting or whining in 4th or 5th. The trans is so quiet. Anyway had to try it after all the posts i read.

I was impressed, i read in the do it yourself section. One guy was an engineer i think and he made some very good points about gear lash. I do believe 100% that oil and gear lash are critical. The synthetic 20w50 is a great oil but to thin to control the lash in this trans. The upshift is so smooth now, the Amsoil 75w 140 is very expensive $12 a quart. &nbsp\\;

Did the same the other day. Put the Bel-Ray in my bike. Night and day difference! I'll never use that stuff again in my tranny. My tranny was the noisiest it ever was with that H-D stuff in it...

I agree Point man the Harley syn is not the right oil for me. I think eventually the load on the bearings is not good&nbsp\\;. The gear lash in a car rear end is very sensitive to oil viscosity. The other day i was in the parts store and saw a Lucas display and the difference in the oils in the display was impressive. I would run a gear lube before putting 20w50 in the trans.

&nbsp\\;I put the Amsoil gear oil in the six speed Scremin Eagle trans&nbsp\\;in my Road King and found the same&nbsp\\;results. That Amsoil is GOOD stuff. I use it in the engine too.
&nbsp\\;For the benifits you get from it, it is worth the little&nbsp\\;extra you pay for it.

I changed to the SPECTRO 6 spd tranny oil. Anyone else? I would like to try the amsoil as the SPECTRO&nbsp\\; doesn't seem to be much diff. It's red fluid and will it mix if I swith to amsoil? Anyone??

I went to Mobil 1 75/90 and it seemed to quieten the tranny at first, but over time the whine and clunking seem to have come back.

In the oil section theres a chart listd somewhere where it says that 75/90 wt oil is the same weight as 50 wt oil. And the 80/140 is the same s 60 wt oil. they use a different method of gradeing the motor and gear oils, but it seems in the end they weigh the same. Even amsoil's 20/50 wt motor oil carries a gl1 rating and can be used in your trans. so the guys who say "I would never use a motor oil in my trans cause its too light", crack me up.,,
