Rented an Ultra for a week last year and didn't notice much of a difference. The fairing is kinda nice on the highway, but didn't notice any riding difference.

theres alot of variables to this, if you got alot of weight in the tour pack its gonna seem different also there is some added weight to the front of an ultra cuz of the batwing but i would not give up my batwing or my tour pack it makes all the difference in comfort and usage to me. i started off on a sporty 1200c and went to an ultra and there is alot of difference in handling to me from a fairing bike to a non fairing bike (also have rode buddies rk). i like the rk would even consider getting one but gotta have the batwing and tourpack there just to handy to have and much more comfortable on the highway (air fatigue). just ny 2 cents

I traded my RKC in for an Ultra Classic last November.
Didn't think I'd like it as much as I do.
The Ultra is a little heavier, but with all the riding we do, this is a better cruiser with additional storage.
The Ride is very similiar.

The Road King is about 740 lbs, while the U/C is 790. The King has bars that are farther forward and wider. IMO the U/C is more comfortable for long rides.

The biggest difference I found was the wind tends to blow you around on windy days.

I traded in my 1999 RKC for a 2007 Ultra. It was a moment of madness (they offered me a great deal but I had to decide there and then...). I'd sunk a lot in to the RKC and loved it. I have never looked back. I feel the Ultra is better balanced and I throw it around more and feel more secure with U turns etc. It may be the effects of the rubber swing arm on the pre 2000 bikes, I don't know. My ideal garage would have both, RKC without screen for cruising and the Ultra for the long days. Plus maybe a sportster for the bits in between. And a Buell. Plus a bobber. And a 60's FLH...............

I wouldn't trade my Ultra for a lesser model

My bike is a RK, only dressed like an Ultra.&nbsp\\; I notice a big difference in over all wind noise, (less as an Ultra) and stability to me seems better with front fairing and lowers.&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;
Over all ride is the same, with or with out the weight of all that mess on or off.
&nbsp\\;
Hardly ever taken off any more. Like to much.&nbsp\\; Fairing, keeps fingers and hands warmer in winter. And sheads water&nbsp\\;far better then then stock windscreen alone.&nbsp\\; Hardly get wet in storm with up and lower fairings.&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;
Wife couldn't live without travel trunk, extra doo-dads' of storage for drinks.&nbsp\\; I love the different handlebars, way more comfort then stockers.&nbsp\\; And seat&nbsp\\;King Pillow is great in my opinion.
