Hawgrider, We have thought about getting him an mp3 player, but he is not very gadget savvy. He doesn't have a computer and just bought a digtal camera over the weekend and we have to sit down with him and show him how to use all of the settings. He will just have to keep buying cd's at the store.

goodbirds, It isn't a CD-RW that is the problem, it is the age of the radio. And I haven't had problems with RW's. Most of the time if it won't play, it is because the files weren't mp3 format, they were \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;WMA format. We had the problem th first time my hubby made a disc for his Ultra. Some of the songs were mp3 and some were WMA and the H-K radio doesn' support WMA files.
I've got a Sansa e260 Mp3 player and I think the user interface is extremely user friendly...even for a beginner. \\;\\\\\\; The only issue I think he'd have is getting the Mp3 files loaded to the player initially, which he could get help with from anyone with a halfway decent knowledge of computer file transfers [drag and drop is how I do it]. \\;\\\\\\; Once he's got a decent mix of music on the player, he has no need to mess with the songs it holds as the selection is so great, I don't think I heard every song on my player in the 15 months I've owned it. \\;\\\\\\; I just recently wiped and reloaded a new library to mix things up.
BTW: \\; I paid $120.00 for mine a year ago and recently saw the same model on sale at Target for $80.00...worth every penny. \\; I don't touch my CD's at all anymore.
Different file formats are not read by all players \\;the same. \\; I too ditched the CD's for iPod. \\; \\;When I couldn't find any decent mounts, I design and manufactured \\;my own (in the USA of course). \\; Got them licensed by Apple too!

Just picked up a Sansa C250 2Gig for 30 bucks with a rebate at office depot. Made a small leather pouch for it, with a leather tab which I slide down in the rear of the locking gas cap and then close the cap to lock it in. Sits right on the tank behind the cap, I cut a hole in the top of the leather so I can see the display. The buttons I can feel thru the leather. A short 1/8" male to male stereo plug. 2 Gigs of MP3s should get me down the road a long way. I think the next upgrade will be the speakers.
