 \\;You don't need a 7/16 allen I used a short 1/4" bolt with about 5 nuts jammed together on it. Then put that in a 7/16 \\;socket, it worked perfect. \\; \\;
I tried the nut/bolt thing but the depth worked out that when I went to torque it down, all I did was tighten the nuts outside the adapter while the ones inside remained in place.
 \\;
Not to mention, as my first post described, I was trying to figure out a way to save the chrome regulator cover, which meant I had to take it off a couple times, too, which of course, the nuts simply unscrewed from the bolt.
I'm with Jag on the nut and bolt trick. \\; I used it when I installed a cooler on my 99 EG five or six years ago, and went right back to it for my 07 RK about two months ago. \\; Works like a charm.
I also dressed mine up a bit. I hated the idea of putting on this nice chrome cover and having the plain black hoses with worm clamps. I had some SPECTRE metal hose braiding left over from a project YEARS ago that was the right size. I ordered some chrome 3/8" clamps from JEGGS, which I think made the whole thing look better.
Did you purchase this hose braiding off of the internet or can it be purchased in specific auto part stores?
Also, the chrome clamps are those from Jeggs the cooler manufacturer?
I just installed this cooler about 3 weeks ago and don't like the cheap looking rubber hoses.
I tried installing mine a couple of weeks ago. the dry loctite that was on the allen bolt in the kit bound the bolt so bad that I snapped off two grade 8 bolts trying to get it to just seat, much less torque down. I haven't found a 7/16 wrench yet, so I just put it back in the box for now. I guess I'll take it out to my shop where I can wire brush the loctite off it and use some wet for the next attempt.
It amazes me HD doesn't use oil coolers, which, IMO, is a critical component of any \\;air cooled engine, especially a MC! Every jap bike and Quad I own or owned, has had an oil cooler! \\; May it's HD's way of getting you to come in and buy another bike when the old goes South!
 \\;
My 08 Low Rider has a couple allen plugs on the filter housing, which I'm assuming is for a cooler, which I need to look into. I will have more labor on that bike installing because of the lame *** canister in front for the Commiefornia emissions!
Okay - after tipping the bike over on the way home to day F*&\\;K!
 \\;
Now I'll put in some pics. BTW - the socket I used to pull the old filter adapter was a 22MM - hey, it worked.
