First off, I did do a search, but all that came back was a topic on "Someone should do a step by step on the removal", but it never was filled in. Anyway, I ordered my service manual, but it won't be in for a 7-10 days. I just bought the Hogtunes and want to install them. Can someone give me a step by step on the \\; removal for the front speakers. I have an 08 Ultra Classic.
No problem. \\; Just be VERY careful when tightening the screws once you put the fairing back on. \\; Many people have stripped the brass inserts out which is a mess. \\; Post if you need something.
Yep, I would remove the whole thing, headlight and all. \\; Not hard, I just did it my first time recently. \\; Just gotta be sure to get the windshield lined up correctly when you tighten it up or you have a big *** gap you will hate.
The link above is good, especially the pics. \\; However, I prefer to remove the three windshield screws, remove the windshield and windshield trim if you have one (I do), then reinstall the center screw as you go on to remove the other four screws. \\; \\; The center windshiled screw will keep the outer fairing in place until you are ready to remove it and the outer fairing. \\; Just need to hold the outer fairing while you release the headlamp connector and remove the fairing. \\;
 \\;
Also, if you don't have passing lamps (e.g. Street Glide) then leaving the fairing on the bike is not an option since there is no passing lamp bracket or lamps to support it.
And do not use Loctite to install the screws back on. \\; That stuff eats away at the plastic, which is one of the reasons the brass insert will strip out. \\; (Learn from my mistakes.)
 \\;
 \\;
When I remove mine I take it all the way off also. \\; Quick tip...I lay a microfiber rag over each
of the passing lamps, it protects the paint on the fairing and helps it slide out from behind the lamps easier.
I have a pair of old, thick wool socks I pull over the passing lamps before I begin taking the faring off. \\; That keeps the scratches away. \\; Just remomber to remove the socks afterward!
