Heading to Sturgis for the first time this year and have decided a motorcycle lock would be a good idea. \\; Any suggestions on the best one to use on my \\;Electra Glide Classic? \\;
S&\\;W .44 Mag N Frame 3" Magnaported. \\; \\;  \\; Seriously, \\; If you have the room a good cable lock is great, and hook it up to two or three of your buddies... \\; Front wheels facing if possible. \\; Been there the last 7 years and haven't had a problem, but keep and eye on it, and don't park on abandoned streets solo. \\; Light and people around, best protection. \\; Alarms are constantly going off so I don't think their any good. \\; JMHO
Just locking the ignition and column lock is "usually" enough. \\; Alot of the bikes that are stolen are the ones that get parked, and unlocked...yes, the ignition is unlocked. \\; Watch sometime, you can see gumby's parking all over and not locking diddly. \\; Really though, the percentage of bikes stolen is small.
think about how easy it is... buddies new SG 2 days old got stolen...witness seen that rear screw that holds seat removed,cut rear strap , pull back seat,cut battery wire, now alarm wont ring - bike rolled into a Savana Van - all under 10 seconds.
i like the chain idea with many Bikes 2gether and also i heard the disk lock may help sometimes.
It's like the old story: \\;\\\\\\; Two guys are out in the woods. \\;\\\\\\; A bear comes up on them. \\;\\\\\\; One guy reaches down and tightens up his shoe strings, getting ready for the run. \\;\\\\\\; The other guy says "You aint' gonna out run that bear." \\;\\\\\\; He replies: \\;\\\\\\; "I don't have to out run the bear. \\;\\\\\\; I just have to out run you."
 \\;\\\\\\;
You put a lock on your bike like a cable with a good lock, or a cobralink, or even a giant U clamp. \\;\\\\\\; The next bike over doesn't have one. \\;\\\\\\; Which bike is the scooter theif gonna get? \\;\\\\\\; I always lock our 2 bikes together with cables and a Medeco.
Went last year and unless so got something really really special no one will take a second look at it....make sure your insurance is up to date and lock the ignition and bars....If they really want it they will get it........I left my helmet on the bike and nobody messed with it.......by all means lock if it makes you feel better....but to have to carry a cable and lock is a pain....maybe a disc lock my might \\;be ok...I got a story to tell...while we were there my brother and I traded bikes to run into town he has a softail and I have a road king...we could not find spots to park by each other..after we met up on main street I went back to get something out of my bags.....some guy setting there on his bike was watching me start to get into \\;the bags and he came over and told me to get away from the \\;bike \\;because he had seen the guy that got off it (my brother) and I was not the same guy....I had to show him the keys and turn it on before he backed off....thought it was kinda cool..just mt 2 cents..anyway have fun and be safe
No one is going to take my bike. I use the Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboutit. Bought it on Ebay for around $100. Check it out at their website. Its a double pinned small U lock with a beefy chain covered in a cool tightly wound cloth cover so the finish on your ride is protected. \\; \\;
