Default Progressive Shox

Just recieved and installed a set of Progressive 440 Series shocks on my '06 FLHX. What a difference these babies make. Bike feels more planted and no more bone jarring zings up the spine at RR crossings. Now my *** actually stays on the seat. Went with the standard spring and only need the smallest amount of preload riding solo. Glad I didn't go with the heavy spring. Got about 70 mi. so far and expect the ride to only get better. Great product and worth the price. Got mine from CycleSpot for under $460 to my door and about 20 min. to install.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;

I did the same for my 07.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; I got the 12.5" so I had an extra .5" of shock.&nbsp\\; They work great!

I have 12½" 440's on my '07 FLHX (½" higher than stock), and I have had similar experiences. Ride is much better with fewer "jarring zings up the spine" as you aptly describe it. The stock SG shocks would sometimes knock your *** up into your Adam's apple on occasion. Terrible!&nbsp\\; How much do you weigh and what is the preload you decided on? I weigh 170# and have settled on 3½ turns as an ideal compromise between ride and minimizing bottoming. It still bottoms occasionally, but not as often and not as painfully. I consider them less than perfect, but a big improvement considering the cost. And speaking of cost, I'd advise prospective buyers to check around, as you can find these for around $400, or at least could one year ago when I bought mine. I found mine on Ebay, a used pair removed from a bike that was sold, for $300. Check Ebay for sure, as there are vendors selling them new at a good price.

I have same on my 07 RG, I have about 10k on them and they are adjusted to the max and I bottom out on every bump. I just contacted Progressive and they are going to respring mine with the HD ones. I hope these work.

Yep, the 440's are definitely better than the stockers but after 5 years on them I switched to Works Street Trackers, better yet.

Iclick - I weigh about 210 and so far have screwed the preload down to the first adjust ring. Like I said I only have about 70 mi. on them and think they're great so far. Time will tell on the spring rate, though. Springs can sack and I'll deal with that if it happens. I have done lots of suspension tuning and didn't want a too stiff spring, hence the standard rate. You can always preload or go up but you can't lighten one up. Glad you like yours too. I didn't have the luxury of shopping Ebay for personal reasons but you're right on with that advice. See ya.

for you guys that have the 440's mounted on touring bikes, when you say you have the preload set at 3 1/2 or 4 turns out, are you saying turns from the top (softest) to the bottom (stiffest) or what? do you use the reference marks on the shock body to measure? I'm 170 lbs, solo 90% and I have them set all the way to the top (softest) but I think I need some preload.
