Default OIL

After reading posts about oil I have one question thats is not covered on the oil post or I couldn't find.&nbsp\\; What is the difference between these two oils, 15W50 and 20W50. Will the 15W50 work in my 06 Ultra Classic.

Thanks

Biff

Mobil 1 15W50 will work just fine, and in fact is what I use in my 06 Eglide. I'd suggest using a HD or Wix filter.

Castrol 75W90 Syntech gear oil, only because it was leftover from another job. Any synthetic gear oil from a MAJOR manufacturer will be ok and will work better than the HD Formula+. I don't like the MOCO's approppach of using synthetic engine oil in the tranny. I use engine oil in the engine and gear oil in the tranny. I do use formula+ in the primary.

There is a sight on the Internet somewhere about viscosity of oil. The easiest way to explain it is just to say, the first number is the ability of the oil to flow cold, lower # better flow, cold weather. The second # is what it is going to do hot. This is just a super simple way of looking at oil. IMO, 60 wt would be excelent in a hd except we all do not live where the temp is hot all the time. I run Modil&nbsp\\;1 20-50 V twin, Modil 75-90 trans, and Formula + in the primary. Oil is a individuals choice. Mostly everyone runs the same things, just different brands.

It's an excellent oil and a great choice, IMO. The 15w50 has been tested along side M1 20w50VT and performs as well, and is very inexpensive when purchased in the 5-qt. bottle at Wal-Mart. It may well be the best bargain in high-quality synthetic oils.
