Default Bike problems

Dads 2003 Ultra fuel injected bike.
&nbsp\\;
Cuts out now and then could be going down the road at 55 and it just cuts out like its not getting fuel. then takes right back off.&nbsp\\; Has little pop now and then but primary problem is the cut out like said like its not getting fuel sometimes does it when he takes off cuts out then takes off.&nbsp\\; Said he was riding wed rode 300 miles and seems to be getting worse just going down the highway with throttle at 55 to 60 and the bike just cuts out and then it picks right back up comes and goes.
&nbsp\\;
He was told to check out the pick up tube inside the fuel tank that they occasionally get a pin hole or hole in them from rubbing inside the tank causing a lose in fuel psi.
&nbsp\\;
any ideas trying to figure it out as he leaves for sturgis july 26th.

It's a great idea to solicit ideas from all the knowledgeable folks here but with only three weeks until departing on such a major trip, I'd have that bike at the dealer pronto!

If it's just shutting off like you turned the switch of and then picks up and goes again, I'd be looking for a short in the electrical system.&nbsp\\; Maybe the ignition switch.
coil wire, something along those lines, maybe a short to the fuel pump? I hate that kinda stuff,&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; good luck with it.

I'm way too simple, but it sounds like a fuel line issue.&nbsp\\; I'd change filters and check the lines.

The check for the bad internal fuel line is quick and easy.&nbsp\\; They insert a pressure gauge inline on your fuel line externally. Turn the ign. switch on and see what pressure is shown on the gauge and then watch to see if the pressure drops.&nbsp\\; The dealer hooked it up for free when I was having problems.&nbsp\\; Good luck.&nbsp\\;

If it doesn't happen on a full tank, then it probably is the fuel line in the tank.&nbsp\\; They will get multiple holes from rubbing-good news is it's covered under warranty up to 18,000 miles. Take it to the dealer.&nbsp\\; I've had to replace them on 2 bikes already

Is the bike stock, or is he running any add on fuel management, like a PCIII?

fuel starvation is usually gradual, electrical comes on and off in a milli second.

Is the symptom quick or gradual?

I've seen the fuel pick up issue and it happens regardless of speed/rpm, the one I was chasing down started as a cold start issue. Turned out to be fuel lines on a 20K mike bike.
