Default the Unbelieveable !!!

Not only do the dealers not know much...the people at the MOCO headquarters don't either !!!
Who designs these bikes????
I have a 2003 FLHT and bought the rear wheel from a 2008. I had the bearings changed to 1" and put it on my bike. Well, I didn't think to check tire size before doing all this and once it was done I notice the tire rubbing the guard REAL BAD !! So, I call dealers and they don't have a clue what's going on, so I call MOCO and THEY DON'T EITHER !!!
Has anyone out there any experience or advice for me?
The 2008 tire is a little wider, I know, my question is, will the rubbing cause heat and an accident??
Thanks !!!

The 03 had a totally different rear drive sprocket on it, as well as a totally different belt!&nbsp\\; You cannot use an mu85&nbsp\\;tire on the rear of that&nbsp\\; bike..&nbsp\\; You cant assume&nbsp\\; that&nbsp\\; all HD wheels&nbsp\\; will fit all models..&nbsp\\; You&nbsp\\; should have checked the part #'s with ur&nbsp\\; dealer&nbsp\\; 1st..&nbsp\\; Take it&nbsp\\; off&nbsp\\; .. sell it on&nbsp\\; ebay .&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; The sidewall of the tire&nbsp\\;making contact&nbsp\\; with&nbsp\\; the&nbsp\\; belt&nbsp\\; will&nbsp\\; cause abnormal wear&nbsp\\; to both and may fail &nbsp\\;(either part) ..&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; NO GOOD.&nbsp\\; TAKE IT OFF.&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;A MOCO&nbsp\\; engineer/designer&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; told me once&nbsp\\;at Sturgis &nbsp\\;that&nbsp\\; the only tire size they can recommend is the stock size that came on the bike&nbsp\\; for that year.. AND ITS&nbsp\\; TRUE&nbsp\\;..&nbsp\\; You want a bigger tire... buy a new&nbsp\\; HOG.&nbsp\\; Sorry&nbsp\\;!

I wasn't going for a wider tire on purpose, I was going for the new rim. Mine is FILTHY, having hardly ever cleaned it.
I bought the back end of the 2008 that got triked and figured I'd have the bearings changed over and use the rest of the tire. I'll go pull it back off and stick the new Michelin on it.
Thanks, I appreciate you guys helping out.

My experience has been that HD store personnel (parts people, techs, etc.) in my area&nbsp\\;know very little about modifying a bike from its stock configuration.
&nbsp\\;
And I wouldn't expect a Customer Service Rep at MOCO to know much either regarding a variation from the stock configuration.
&nbsp\\;
A look at the tire fitment information in the paper MOCO P&amp\\;A catalog would have told you that the rear tire on an '03 FLHT is different from '04 and newer model years.
&nbsp\\;
Sorry to hear of your troubles.&nbsp\\; If you want to go to the trouble, you can trim the belt guard a bit to eliminate the rub.
&nbsp\\;
Just ask more questions next time, consult the parts books at the dealer's parts counter, or both before considering modifying the bike from its stock configuration.

This is a very common tire change, MT/130 to MU/140. All you need to do is trim the rubber strip on the belt guard where it contacts the tire. You have just gone up one tire size, 130 to 140, and only increaded tire width by .31 inches overall. I have been running a 140 on the rear of my 02 for over 60000 mi. without any problems.&nbsp\\;As long as you&nbsp\\;installed your '03 parts&nbsp\\;on the rim, sprocket, bearings, spacers, etc., everything should be fine after trimming the little rubber strip on the inside of the belt guard where it contacts the tire.

Exactly. No problem.

BTW, when the new wheel gets dirty, what are you going to replace it with?

I'll research better next time, believe me. Just cost me some time pulling the rear wheel off and anopther trip to the dealer to get the new Michelin put on. I'll pull the front tomorrow and have it's new Mich put on and I'm ready for my trip to Maine and the New England states.
Thanks again guys.
