My 98 Ultra tour pack, which is fiberglass, has a problem.
The lid lip where the top part of the latch is ankored has broken. Now the lit part of the frount latch is hanging by a little fiberglass, the rear latch is sorta loose also. Has this happened to anyone else?
Anyone know a fix for this?
I was hopeing for a easy fix, though I know it would be temporary. The tour pack lid is close to $300 from HD, then it would need to be painted.
The lip where the upper latch mounts is a small, thin area, doupt I'll have much luck patching it, then it will probably look like crap.
I've done lots of 'glass work on vettes. I'd be more than happy to do what I can if you could part with it for about a week. I'm in Marylad so shipping shouldn't be that bad. What color is it?
You can get it fixed at any autobody shop for just a little bit of cash. Most will repair it and paint it in about a week. Ebay also has a lot of tourpaks. You might even be able to find one in your color.
After reading and searching the internet, I,m gonna try and fix it myself with JB weld. If you look inside the top (lid) part of the latch, it is hollow and not seen because of the way it sits on the bike. I think I can get two or three 1/8 holes drilled inside there, into the fiberglass lid lip, for the JB weld to slime thru and hold, while building up the back plate area also.
The seal behind the backplate of the latch presents a problem, if I can get it off without ripping it to bad, then glue it back on after JB weld has cured, I will be lucky.
Time will tell, lotsa vibration in that tour pack.
