I wouldn't go so far as to say it's "unique", there may be another one that will work. \\; But it's reasonably unique on all of your locks except the gas cap cover.

The barrel key is bike specific. Other wise, why would you need a key? The locking gas cover on my 06 can be opened with any barrel key. Just a feature that allows owners who leave home without their key to at least get gas ( that is if they are with someone who had his key with him or a good samaritan that happens to be in the right place at the right time) so that they can get home to get their key.
Thanks for the input, it is just that when you look at the barrel keys they look pretty generic to the eye. the difference in keys must be minute when you think there is thousands of these keys out there. Just a thought.

That's why I think it's probably safe to assume that there IS another key out there somewhere that will start my bike.
FWIW, a Harley wrench once told me there are only a few variations........if you pull the black cover off you'll find a number, and that you will find matching numbers if you check enough of them. I ran into this in 06 in the White Mtns in NH. Was able to help somebody get their bike going when they lost their key! I made em show me reg and license to prove it was legit and not trying to pull some ****.
