Default Crash on Ft Mountain

Sunday my wife and I took a ride on highway 52 from Ellijay GA to Chattsworth over Fort Mountain. This is a beautiful high mountain road with lots of curves and overlook stops. There was a group of about 7 sport bikes that passed me going as fast as they could. A short time later I came on a curve that one of the sport bike riders did not make. It looked like he was going to fast and somehow the bike stood up and went off the back of the curve. He went down 150 feet and hit a large poplar tree.

I stopped and helped the rescue workers pull the guy up to the road and ambulance. He was bleeding from his ears, eyes, nose and mouth. His bike was broken in half.

I can understand the thrill of sport bikes I used to have one, but I sure wish the riders would be more careful. When those guys passed me they cut in front of me with only a couple of feet to spare.

All we could do was say a prayer for him, he was hurt pretty bad.

I'm glad I ride a harley and have fun going at a safe speed.

where do you live? I live in Canton. I ride in that area alot. Sometimes those rockets fly by so fast you can hardly see them. I don't understand why they put themselfs and other riders in so much danger and disrespect other riders so much.

What I find sometimes is the less experienced riders feel peer pressure to "Keep up" to more experienced riders and end up taking corners too fast or pulling off stupid stunts. I can understand the thrill of speed, but you have to know your limitations and respect the road. Of course this is easier said than done when dealing with little kids on sport bikes. Every now and then I see someone who rides a sport bike and uses common sense, but that's rare.

How I survived riding my Ninja for 12 years is beyond me. Got to give thanks to the man upstairs, cause I used to drive at full redline with my hair on fire. I used to think that I was immortal.

Now it is just low and slow.

My prayers go out to him...

The margin for error is so small - I understand the thrill and the need for speed but like Granny always said "If ya wanna play the fiddle ya gotta pay the piper" - There are tons of rockets aorund here and most seem to drive safe but I do go nutz when I see one leave the light on his rear wheel - Maybe I am getting old but I just don't see the reason for it - It's really dangerous and it's ten times worse when you potentially can hurt an innocent person who just happens to be in the wrong place at the right time - It's a shame - not saying this guy did anything wrong but with all that power comes responsibility - Hope he is okay

Hopefully, there were no mechanical malfunctions.

Sounds like he was riding faster than his Guardian Angel could fly.

Live and learn. If he was riding like a donkey, so be it!

No sympathy from this corner.

I made the mistake of takin' a 40' 5th wheel camper across that mountin range on my way to Cleveland, GA a couple years ago. Man was that a mistake. COst me a brake job on my dually when I got home. But I am eagerly awaiting the chance to ride my bike over it. There are some beautiful vistas up there. That ride will be a hoot on a scoot!

These young guys just don't understand the importance of safety. Speed and more speed is all they want. He made have learned his lesson the hard way.

Prayers go out to him and his family and hope for a speedy recovery. I'm not gonna get into the whole debate about sportbikes because I still own one and got a good laugh at few responses.

Stay safe everyone!
