Default knocking sound from primary

i have a knocking sound in the rear of the primary. this is not the the start knock that so many complain about. at a cold&nbsp\\;start up there is a noticeable knocking at the rear of the primary, not very heavy or loud but i can hear it slightly. after the engine warms up the sound is gone. i noticed this about 500 miles ago, at that time the engine had 7000 miles on it. my bike is a 07 bagger all stock. anyone know what it is? once again it is only heard on a cold engine, after riding the bike and it gets completely warmed up the sound is gone.

It is probably the self-adjusting primary tensioner.....

no i'm using 10w40 motor oil. i thought it might be the compensator but that's at the front of the primary but sounds do echo in there. it might be the auto tensioner, time will tell i quess.

Same problem here using same viscosity, changed to 20w50 Castrol GTX and I haven't heard it in months.

You could try to accelerate in first gear to about 25 mph then firmly step on rear brake do not pull in clutch til you absolutely need to. try it couple of times...should work...will reset tension.
