Now that I have a 103 kit and International frt sprocket (-2 teeth) in 6th at 3k-3100 is a perfect minimum w/o lugging Im at 81-82 mph, otherwise 70-75 in 5th at about 34-3500 (but she sounds good there)
RPM &\\; MPH have nothing to do with when you shift. It's all about load (the total weight) &\\; incline or decline (which all effect the gross load). IF the bike &\\; you only weighed a 100 lbs (a hypothetical weight) you could probably start off in 4th gear instead of 1st (but we don't).
So you should go by the sound of the engine. I do. Drove a semi for years and never used the tach. Tachs are for racing in my opinion.

Here is an image of a spreadsheet I have. I typically shift at 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60. No lugging whatsoever, but I have freer-flowing airbox and mufflers along with appropriate fueling.

Glens,
Can you publish you Excel file ?
Thanks,
