A few of my friends have GW Trikes and hey if that's what they choose to ride so be it. Makes no difference to me. When I get to that age and I have a issue of me holding up my bike I may even look at a Trike. The Harley Trike looks great. Too bad the reverse isn't a standard feature.
The reverse is standard on the Goldwing trikes only because the reverse is standard on he wing it's self...the reverse that's available for the Harley is from Champion and works with the transmission unlike the wing which uses the starter. The HD will backup as fast as the operator wants it too....wheee
The problem I have with a Harley Trike is that the V twin is not adequate for power, in my opinion.
As said before, If I was going to "trike it" I would go with a Gold Wing. I owned a wing for 1.5 years but as a motorcycle it had "no soul".
Loving the Ultra for two wheels.
The 96" or the SE 110" motor does a good job, but you're right, the wing has power to spare for the trike....but the HD will do a fine job and looks better. I've owned 4 wings and they are a great bike, but they are uncomfortable to me, sitting position sucks for me, hate the feet underneath me.
I would go with a CSC kit for a HD trike, I like it.
I got hurt in Saudi Arabia and I have now had 3 low back opperations. I have rods, pins, screws, and cages in my lower back. Sometimes it is all I can do to back my bike into a parking space, but I can still get by,for now. Altho I love the look of the trike and I love the extra space in the the lower trunk, when the time comes for me (AND IT WILL) I think I will opt for my bike bike with a side car. Still feels like a bike but has three wheels. I looked at the Liberty Side cars and they are very nice up next to the
H-D Ultra Classic,or even the Road Glide, and the only cost about $8K with alot of options. I love the nostalgic look of the H-D with a side car. JMO
Have you noticed the parking brake on the trike it looks like an after thought. Looks like a ******* hanging there. Worst looking parking break I have seen on a trike ruins the bike in my opinion.
I never understood the trike attraction for someone healthy and able-bodied. It doesn't handle like a bike and you can't filter through traffic. Might as well buy a convertible and have the top and heater.
That said, I think it's very cool when an older or infirmed rider wanting to keep his now unrideable bike converts it into a trike or a hack.
