I got the green light from the old lady to test the waters for a touring model that I'll probably buy later this year. This bike would be my 4th Harley and first bagger.
I'm tossed up between the classic lines of a 'King classic with shark fins and other Duo glide style enhancements plus the leather tour pack kit or An Electra Glide classic or Ultra classic. My mind is putting me towards either of the Glides with their luxury and electrinic features but my heart is saying go with the 'King for the clean, 60's electra glide look. Harley's f'd up pricing just complicates things.
My Wife recently caught the HD riding bug after almost 6 years of being together and wants to do more riding 2 up. My Superglide 'aint her cup of tea for two up so I'm keeping the 'glide and 'adding the tourer for my wife'. I'm going to keep driving my old piece of $hit car and 'do the right thing'. 'Aint that swell of me?
Anyway, I do have an eye for the 07 baggers with the possibility of stock 95 inchers and 6 speed tranny.....any thoughts?
I went for the king classic for the same reason, the style. My wife likes it a lot better than the sporty we had before and it is a great touring bike.
the only reason to wait for the 6 speed would be if it was a 6th gear OD, otherwise it's a waste.
I love my EG, handles great, moves right along.
Neggy, I've had a 4 speed, 5 speed and now a 6 speed on the '06. If shifting into 6th gear at 63-65 MPH and 75 MPH 'loafing' on the highway does not qualify that tranny as an overdrive, I don't know what does.... short of a .089 baker and standard primary gearing.
P.S. Buttman, whats the wind protection behind the screen of a roaddie?
I do believe the RK would be the 1 bike to have. If I had bought a RK instead of mt fatboy, I wouldn't have had such a good excuse to get the Ultra. Boy that sure was smart, ooops dumb of me wasn't it. The RK is great, but the Fairing easily adds another 100-200 miles a day. IMO But what do I know, I like green.
I think you have to at least ride a Electra Glide and a Road Glide before you decide - The King is a true classic but when you consider the total package, the big picture, form AND function the EG and RG come out on top esp. for two-up riding - An EG Classic with a detachable Tour Pak gives you a quasi Street Glide also - To me you can't make a bad choice so have a ton of fun with it and keep us posted
I agree with all the above...at least the RG stuff...
It is really a personal choice, ride them all...if you can, get out on the road with your "Old Lady" on the back and put 100 miles on them. Then you will have a better gauge to compare all 3.
