I know the 10W40 and 20W50 has additives that can hurt the clutch, but I was wondering about the 15W50. I'm not 100% sure, but I think I read somewhere that the oils with those additives have a logo on the bottle that indicates those additives. What does that logo look like.
I want to use an oil that can be found in most stores and Mobil 1 does that. But I would like to use the same oil for both the engine and primary.
Mobil 1 20-50 V-Twin can be used in the primary. It says it on the bottle and all the people that run it have no problems. I also run Mobil for convenience but I run either 75-90 cold weather or 75-140 in the summer in the trans. Castrol 20-50 in the primary is a cheep alternative. But I am spending $60 on an oil change so whats an extra 4-5 $ on another Q of Mobil!

I have not been able to find Mobil Vtwin close by, which is why I wanted to try the 15W50. I find that all over the place. I'm not really trying to save a buck, I like to use oil that I can pick up easily in case I need to add oil in a town that doesn't carry the specilized oils.
I believe any oil *over* 10W will not have any friction modifiers and will be fine with a wet clutch. 5w-? and 10w-? are a no. Mobil's 15w-50 does not have the "energy saving" starburst label.

That sucks! I have no experience with the 15-50. I have seen people put panther **** in these things in emergencys. I would go with the GTX 20-50 if you can get it. Or order some AMS and carry a Q.
I use Moble 1 15W-20 in the crank and and Moble 75-90 in the transmission. But I use Valoline 20w-50, 4 stroke motorcycle oil ($3.50 per quart), jaso approved in the primary. Moble 15W-50 has Moly in it and I think that is very good for the motor but I am not sure it is good for the clutch disks. So I do not use it in the Primary because of the Moly condent.

Are you *sure* Mobil 15w-50 has Moly in it? If so I'd appreciate any information or specs to that effect.
