just picked up my new 09 SG yesterday. I was thinking I wanted these on mine too. Glad to see pics. I wonder how much protection they do or if they are more for looks?.

I'm thinking about getting them too....It would be nice if you just had to buy the bars but looking in the P & A Book, it appears us '09 SG owners have to buy two other parts plus the bars. Someone else check and see if I read the description in the book correctly....

the ones that harley sells in the P&A book are a kit for $170.00. That has all parts to make these bolt right up to the bike. There is nothing else needed
I put them on my SG after seeing someone drop a bike that had them on. There was zero paint damage.....that did it for me right there! I bought the kit from HD. IIRC they can be had in black as well as chrome.

$170, I can't buy a lot of other goodies for that. I'm sure labor wouldn't be much of a job but I always have to look at that as a cost on top of what I buy. I'm sure you guys will bust my chops but I NEVER do any work to my bikes! I've got a good dealership that I trust so I figure it's money well spent. A lot of folks would disagree but I just enjoy riding not the twisting of wrenches. Back to the rails though I'm sure $170 is money well spent if you drop the bike. I'm sure one bag is ANYTHING but cheep. Since I just traded in my EGC I like like the clean lines of the SG and am on the fence if I want the guards on?.. Great pics though on this thread. Made my choice harder now.
how are they for the passenger? Do they bother their legs? My wife is 5'3" so she has shorter legs. I was told they would rub the back of their knees pretty bad. Any truth to this?
I have them installed. I almost removed them three days ago due to them rubbing the wife's legs. She is 5-4. Luckily I left them on. We arrived yesterday at a cabin. The road was gravel and on an angle. The bike fell over while stopped. We picked it up and after inspection, found no damage. Not a scratch. Theey save my bags.
