I am wanting to buy a sheepskin from Alaska Leather prior to the 105th...just wondering what size to buy for a 08 RKC seat. Do I get a full pelt or a 2-UP Full Saddle?
I got the large, $40 one from IKEA and it worked perfectly. Cut a slit in the center to punch your backrest through and the pelt just sits flat with no flapping around.
Go on the Alaskan Leather website and there is a sizing chart. You can call them and confirm. I have the XL shorn and I like it alot. Mine is on an Ultra, rider only. You can add the pillion later if you like. Just did 3200 miles with one day at over 750 miles with no complaints. I have the stock seat. I also believe the backrest and properly adjusted highway pegs contribute to seat comfort.
I just did a 3500 mile trip with the XL sheepskin from Alaska Leather.
I agree with nvsteve about backrest and pegs contributing greatly to overall comfort.
The sheepskin didn't make the seat softer or any more comfortable like a gel pad would. What it is great at is moderating temperature. During the cold mornings, it made the seat feel warmer. It was very good at keeping the your seat cool during the hot afternoons. When you get off the bike at the end of the day, you don't feel like your nether regions have been sitting in a sauna all day.
I won't be using it for around town riding, but I won't hesitate to take it for long highway trips.
