I am looking for a good GPS for both my 07 FLHTC and my car. I will also need mounts for the bike. Is there anything out there besides the Zumo 550 which ais a little pricey?
I use a magellan crossover. Works well and is waterproof. I have it mounted within my pouch windshield bag (took from custom cutting and drilling to get it to fit).
TomTom Go720 with RAM mount here. It's not waterproof but my windshield pouch is so if it starts raining I just put it in there. We bought it for the car but I use it on my bike more often. I've used Garmin and Magellan and I like the TomTom more. It has a cool mapping program which allows you to create custom routes on your PC and upload them to your GPS. It also has very user friendly PC software which allows you to keep the OS up to date. Very nice.
Garmin GPSMAP 478. Good for the car, boat, or motorcycle. I use RAM mounts on everything and have never had a problem with them. Used it last year on the bike during a trip from Newfoundland to California, and a lot of shorter trips, with no problems. Color screen is big enough and bright enough to use in any conditions. You can get XM weather subscription which will give you NEXRAD images. It is a very functional GPS but the price of the GPS, XM antenna, and XM weather subscription is not for the faint of heart.
Do a lot of research and get one that works for you. There are a lot of options when it comes to GPS and most people don't need to spend big bucks to get the few funtions they need.
