I use my RKC as a daily driver and weekend ride. I think it's great except I'm kinda thinkin on gettin me a Nightster for work and back cause I'm puttin alotta miles on her. I'm thinkin that way ta keep the miles off the King and save em for touring but I've got no quamms about ridin her anywhere she handles perfect!!

Default RK and 883C Rider Here!

Perfect question, since I am in the same situation. I purchased my first Harley in 2005, an 883 Custom. My wife and I rode two up on this little bike for a lot of miles and we upgraded this June to a Road King. I drive both to and from work daily, but it's only about a 2 mile ride and it's all city driving. On days when there is a 30% or more chance of rain, I'll take the Sporty. It's a good bike and it still needs to be ridden, so I ride both. My personal opinion is that the RK is an easier bike to drive. Now, when I get on the Sporty, I almost dump it every time!! Still lots of fun, plus it's the louder of the two, with it's V&H Shortshot Staggered exhaust...really rips!

I ride my E-Glide (it's a Road King with a fairing and stereo) daily to/from work 135 miles a day round trip and everywhere else i go literally all year around and I couldn't be more pleased or content. It handles great and is very comfortable. The saddle bags on the touring bikes are huge, look great and are very sturdy - hold lots of stuff for shopping, road trips, etc.

I too rode a sporty for about two years only I had a 1200 custom with bags. back in March of 07 I bought my RK and at first it was a little tall but with a new seat and some Arnott Air Ride suspension I am lovin this bike for my little 11 miles each way commute. and the beauty is when I go on ling rides and I do mean Long rides 300 on an average Sunday, I get to ride with the big dogs. Parking is no longer an issue due to the air ride I can ride hi and park low I have a 30 inch inseam.

I use mine as a commuter and daily driver and am very pleased with it. Then there's the weekends either solo and carrying a lot of gear, or two up with the wife cruising. The RK has great utility and I'm sure you'll be happy with one.

I ride my 05 RK daily. It is a great commuter. I have no problems in parking lots, traffic or anywhere else for that matter. I am about 210lbs so to me it was the only choice as I just wasn't comfortable on the smaller bikes. Most importantly buy a bike that fits you and that you are comfortable on.

I just bought an Ultra that I'll be using for commuting, in addition to my touring!

You'll be fine! I'm lucky though, I leave at the crack of dawn (5 am), and usually come home either before or after the rush. I also don't have to deal with stop and go interstate riding.

But I see no reason why you should have any issues! Go for it!
