Default 08 ultra Adjustable Backrest issues

Fisrt to say hey to all I have been lurking for a month or so and you all have really helped me alot .I have done a few mods and got a ton of info.
My issue is I just got a new adgustable br on my 08 ultra the dealer installed and today it wont lock in the forward position I pulled the set and it seems as if the piston jus doesnt have any pi** in it. I dont have a clue does anyone have any idea where to look or how this should work .I can take it back but the dealer is so far away and they are so backed up to have to wait kills me cuz I sure love this bike.
TIA

I had the same problem, I think. I know what I want to say, but don't quite know how to describe it. Anyway, go back and look at the cable, and make sure that it is seated correctly.

Not entirely clear what your problem is. Pull the lever and the back should slam forward to it's most forward position. When pulling the lever you push the back to the position you want and release the lever and it should stay there.

If yours isn't doing this, then either you have a faulty piston or like scoteh said, the end of the cable may not be properly installed. Take the seat off. If my memory serves me right (dangerous territory here), the sleave of the cable fits in a bracket and the dog at the end of the cable fits in the release lever on the piston.

You might want to check the length of the cable that connects to the adjustment handle. When I installed mine, the cable was physically too short, and held the actuator for the piston in the open position. The back rest would never "lock" in place. Dealer had to replace the part and now it works fine.
