I'm looking for a rear 18" tire that will last the longest. My Avon Venom just wore out after 5k miles. Now 1k of those miles was while towing a trailer.
I'm adding a sidecar next month so I'm not needing something to grip the twisties. I want a tire that will last 8-10k miles.
After 2 metrics ( heavy cruisers ) I never got less than 10,000 on my rear tire. 7500 on my Classic now and will surely get 10,000. I keep about 38-40 psi and I weigh about 175. Always used the stock tires that came on the bike.
If all you got was 5K out of the venom you might want to check out the accuracy of your tire gage. The Venoms are considered by most to be the top of the line and have always out lasted the Dunlops and are usually more expensive too.

Finding an 18" 'Touring' tire might be difficult; most 18" tires are geared towards performance with a soft, sticky compound. I've run a 180x18 on my hardtail for the past 10 years and love the Avon's although all I ever get for milage is around 5,000
