...my new '09 Road King Classic! Finally got some pics taken of her. For those of you who don't know me on here already, my name is Ian & I used to have the username FXDC Rider. I obviously hung out in the Dyna section of this board most of the time, but recently sold my old '07 FXDC to buy the bike of my dreams- an FLHRC!
Well, I've had the bike a little over a week now & already got well over 100+ miles on her. Here's just a quick review of her as I know alot of you guys are waiting to here about the '09's on here. This is all, of course, just my own opinion & other riders may feel differently about some of the things I say here. But anyway, here's my review...
Pros:
-New throttle-by-wire seems a bit more responsive when opening up the throttle than the previous clutch system
-Newly re-routed exhaust system works great at keeping excessive heat off the rider
-Larger rear 180 tire & larger front 17 tire make the bike feel as though she has a better "grasp" of the road...the ride & handling are AMAZING!
-The back of the bike with the larger tire & larger, flared-out fender give the back of the bike a slightly "fatter" look to it & looks bad-azz!
-Less engine "shake" at idle due to the new dual engine mounts versus the single mount on previous year models
Cons:
-Annoying "click" sound when the clutch is squeezed going into 2nd gear & sometimes 3rd? Dealer says this is "normal" on all 6-speed, touring bikes?
-Throttle-side switch housing still has grooves in it to accept the cables from the previous clutch system. But with no cables there the edges of these grooves annoy the heck out of your right hand thumb knuckle!
-Stock exhaust is virtually silent after 4th gear & makes it impossible for the rider to hear when the bike wants to change gears or as they say, "talk" to you.
Looks Great! Thanks for sharing your view. Would like to test drive one myself, just don't dare at this moment.
I really like the way the rear of the bikes look for the '09, the wider tire and fender does it for me.
As Yatez004 said about the pre-rusted pipes, I've noticed that the past several years models not just on the '09s, and don't know what the deal is with it either!
Maybe they want it that way to allow you the opiton to buy something right off the bat to fix it.
