Pingie thingy
I see many people on this site talking about this “pinging” from the motors, either from low fuel octane or certain mods. I would like to know one thing: How in the h**l do you hear a ping with aftermarket slip-on mufflers and the v-twin rumble???
I hope someone can tell me what in the world I am suppose to be looking for…Is it like some rocks bouncing around in a coffee can or a sea shell wind chime??? Maybe I need a stethoscope to hear this but at my age it’s hard to hear a damm cricket let alone a ping!

OK, I get the spark knock, but thats a long way from a ping.
OK. I'll get the one of my kids out there and see what they say.. ping or no ping.
I do feel the bottom end shutter below 1800 but the high pitch sounds are very hard for me to hear... Such is life for a truck driver.

"Ping" is a slang. The closest thing I can find to describe a sounds that's like spark knock, when you shut you bike off and sit next to it and listen to it as it cools and it has a tinging pop noise. A couple of the sounds sound like spark knock, "Pinging".

Now that I can relate to: The sound is like a cars engine when you shut it off. It continues to builds up pressure for a bit before it starts to cool, as the water is no longer circulating by the pump in the block. It sounds like the oil is dripping into a metal can underneath the truck.
Now I got it… Still don’t hear it while riding but do hear it when I shut it down and she begins to heat up from lack of air blowing over the fins.
Now I know what to listen for. Thanks
