Anyone from the Gulf Coast Area? Will you be staying or Leaving for the Storm? We will know more this weekend what it will do, I am out of the New Orleans area Myself and keeping a watch on it. They are issuing Evacuations now for certain areas. We do not need another one like Katrina.
Actually they're better off getting a direct overhead hit. As of what the path is predicted to be today, it puts the storm west of New Orleans and that is the worst spot ot be. More wind, more rain, more tornedos, and more surge traditionally are always on the right side of the storm.
I never thought I'd say it, but after haveing Francis and Jeanne literally come in our inlet here, which had the center of the storm over my head both times, I'll take the 'eye' everytime. While we were in the eye, we had hours of nothing while everyone north of us got hammered during the same period. After the eye moved west over us, we then got hammerd too by the right side. But for those 8 and 4 hours, peace and quiet.
Faye created huge flooding on the east coast here because it stalled twice while running up the center of the state, and the Eastern Seaboard got drenched.
I'm not a weatherman, just a Floridian who stayed in a 'Holiday Inn' last night.

Near Corpus Christi Tx here. We haven't had a bad one since Celia in 1970 and are long overdue.

Breaux Bridge here. We're keepin' an eye on it. But it would take something fairly significant to make me leave. We rarely take a hard hit where I am & we're far enough inland for even a cat 3 to dissipate to a 2 before it gets here.
I'll stay home like usual....If I were married and or with kids I would probably leave or send them off. I am with the volunteer FD so I would like to stay and help out. I will probably hang out at the fire hall.
We did a bug-out for Rita three years ago. Took the important papers, guns and motorcycles. We are lucky and have a toy box, plus a small cargo trailer, and the trucks to pull them. I can't imagine how helpless someone feels who don't have these assets.
We are about 50 miles inland, as the crow flies, and took a pretty bad hit, though not as bad as a lot of people.
It took me a week to get things right, with all of the downed trees and such. It took 1 1/2 weeks to get power back
We had Air Conditioning and plenty of Cold Beer, and plenty of food before the National Guard came. Once they moved in, they would drive by and kick out a case of MRE's and water every day until the got stations set up in the area. I still have the MRE's.
It was an experience. The important thing is to have a plan, and work it. We had a plan, and everything went well for us. We are ready again.
