I went to Harley today to purchase a Detachable Tour Pack kit for my 07 Ultra. The parts guy tells me that he would not reccomend doing this. When I asked why he tells me that disconnecting the rear speakers will cause it to throw an error code that can only be cleared by the dealer using a Digital Technician and that they charge $140 to clear the code. He also says that if the bike was to throw another error code you would never know it because your error light (check engine) will not turn off. He says this occurs on the 06 and up Utra with the premium sound system.
Have any of you guys with the Detachable Tour Packs run into this?
If this is true is there a way to fool it (give it some sort of load that electrically looks like a speaker) into thinking it has the rear speakers when it doesn't?
I have had my derachable tour back on my 07 UC for over a year and it never throws a code when I take the tour pack off. Never have had any issues with it on or off.
