I pick up my new RK Custom tomorrow and this is one of the first upgrades I plan on making. While I shopped around for it, one of the dealers told me it couldn't be installed by shade tree mechanics because it required re-programming of the computer. Didn't sound right to me. I'm fairly competent with a wrench and electrical. Does the computer need to be changed? Is there anything regarding cruise control install that can't be done at home?
That dealer must have a boat payment coming up. I did mine in less than an hour. If you have the repair manual, there is a whole section on troubleshooting the cruise control if you run into problems. Good luck.
You spend big bucks for your ride and don't blink an eye. Now you want to nickel and dime on the accessories and/or installation costs. I just ordered CC and I plan on having the dealer install it. Anything goes wrong with the installation, it's on them. If you are not comfortable doing it, then don't. No big deal. I used to do all my own stuff, now I just pay someone else to do it.

been there, done that. for many years.
weet
Jeez weet, my list of toys just doesn't compare to yours. If I had all that, I'd have trouble making ends meet too. Don't misunderstand, I am not well off. I work hard for what I do have. I am just at a point in my life where I am tired of tinkering and just want to "gitter done". Let someone else skin their knuckles. been there, done that. for many years myself. [sm=shades.gif]
Well, now I feel like i've been reamed, steamed and dry cleaned. I just had the 5k mile service and cruise control installed on my bike. The dealer charged me a touch over $600. They did supply the cruise control.

Sounds about right. $250 or so for 5k service, $250 or so for 2.5 hours, leave $100 for cruise which I'm sure is more than that...
