Thumbs up on the streetglide. Its lean and mean!! Chicks dig it. it is very well balanced and not top heavy like a ultra.

I had a personal yen for the street glide, still do. I think thats one of the best HD additions to their fleet in years. However I went with the Ultra because now that the kids are gone I want to ride more with my wife and the Ultra seems to be the best all around long distance accomadator for both passenger/rider comfort/convienience and storage.

I debated between the two. In the end I ordered the SG. Even though I do plan on doing some long rides I like the look of the stripped SG. I can add a tourpak and comfy seat for the old lady, and then turn it back to the killer look street tourer.

I like both. And, I prefer the look and amenities of an Ultra without the tourpack over the SG.

Since it sounds as though your wife rides too, you could always get a SG with a tour pak in case she wanted to ride with you.
The 08 SG's sit a bit lower than do the Ultra's, and do not seem to be as top heavy, even though both are FL's.

It was mentioned that the Ultras have better radios. Personally I don't really care about listening to music when I ride. Kinda distractin'.
I don't take long trips, as I think that cruisin' down a straight interstate is kinda boring.
That would be the only way that I would want a radio.

You would be better off test ridin' out both bikes before you make that decision.
That's what I would do.

The street glide is the bike for me, its sleek, sexy and mean. But I must admit, I change it into something very close to a Ultra when I'm traveling

What's the price difference between the two ? As I remember it's very minimal. I'd say based off of that, to get the U.C. and make it what you want. The light bar and tour pack are removable for short rides, and no night trips. Then when you need them bolt them back on. That's what I'd do.

You'll never be sorry if you buy the Ultra. I don't know why people think it's top heavy, the tour pak doesn't weigh much at all compared to the rest of the bike. I use mine all the time, even around town. It's much easier to use than the saddlebags. I throw my laptop bag in it and ride to work every morning. The bag will fit in my saddlebag, but not without a bit of a struggle. Plus I can put both my wife's and my 3/4 helmet in there when we stop to eat.

But the SG is a very nice bike. If I rode one up most of the time, I might consider it. You can save some bucks on the purchase price, but will end up spending more if you try to turn it into an Ultra.

Since we ride two up a lot, the intercom was also a big selling point for me. I thought I would use the CB, but have only used it a few times, but it was nice when I did. I take the lowers off in the summer, but they will go back on soon, and really make a difference in the cold or the rain.
