Default Streetglide Questions

I'm torn between the Streetglide and the Classic. Got two questions.

I see that a lot of people change out the seat of the SG. Which seat are people going with?

Most of my riding will be one up. I tip the scales at 220#. My wife goes about 170#. Will the SG suspension be good enough, or should I go with the UG Classic?

the sundowner solo is a nice wide seat. Check out the corbin solo and the mustang solo. Corbins have known to be rock hard in the past. I would steer clear of those but the mustang and the sundowner are great. The sundowner is made by harley. Also you will not be happy with the SG suspension anyway you ride. You can change to progressives or I am sure someone would love to swap your 12" SG shock for the 13" that comes on a Ultra

Wife tried the Sundowner on a friends bike and did not like. He had done a 500k trip on it and found it pushed him more forward and was uncomfortable on his back...

the SG suspension will be just fine, just air it properly for the weight. as for seats, they are kinda like hats, everyone wears one that suits them personally. My other half and I like the lepera we have and she refuses to try anything else. I had thought to run a solo when shes not on but never have got around to it. I am around 265 and shes about 130 i would guess, and it will prob get me hit

I have the mustang solo seat with matching passenger pillion. Very easy and quick to remove the passenger seat and replace it with a fender bib when riding alone

I like the mustang solo with the optional rear passenger seat that is detachable. That way when I'm running solo the bike looks sweet, I can add the rear seat to take a passenger.

I replaced my seat with a Mustang solo with driver backrest and I changed my stock,12"shocks with Progressive Suspension,12.5" 440 shocks.I think it's two of my best upgrades.

I usually ride one up, but once in a while the wife goes. So I use the Solo Mustang seat and then when the wife rides I add the Mustang detachable to match.

From MY perspective, both questions are dependent on what year your looking at.

Me: 210, wife 140.

07 or older:
Seat: Mustang. The older Sundower is good for the rider, but pretty small and hard for the passenger. Suspension: I changed mine to the 13" shocks (ebay-$60) and 1" lowering blocks, to keep the ride height down. 07 stock SG shocks rode rougher, and bottomed out constantly over the smallest bumps.

08 Sundowner is a better seat for passenger starting this year. Much more roomy in back. Does sit the driver a little more forward than in 07-prior, but no more so that stock seat on Classic/Ultra. Shocks, same as 07.

09: Sundowner is good, as they made the rear section much more roomy (same seat as 08). Shocks (so far) are good as is on my 09. MUCH better than the 07 versions of the 12" shocks, as they have beefed up the weight rating a LOT. I now run 5-10 lbs solo, 40 lbs 2 up. On my 07, I ran 25-30 solo, maxed out when 2 up (and wanting more) and was still bottoming all the time. I MAY put the taller ones on at some point, when they become cheap and plentiful on ebay as new take-offs, but for now, the 09 version is just fine and MUCH better than on my 07.

Mustang is a good bet on seats for ANY year (IMHO) but the 08-09 Sundowner is a good alternative, and somewhat cheaper. I can almost PROMISE you wife would not be happy on the 07 version of the seat for anything over 50 miles. (my wife was in PAIN within 30)

BTW, I've had two Classics prior to the SGs, (03 & 05) so I know how they ride in comparison.
