The Wife and I are planning a road trip next June from Dallas TX to Bangor ME,does anyone have any suggestions or tips on the best route? I would like to know about other road trips people have taken up that way too.
Well, if you have the time, the Cherahola Scenic Skyway and Deal's Gap are two fun rides. I actually the Cherahola. Jack Daniels Distillery is interesting. So is the Biltmore mansion in Ashville, NC. There you could pick up the Blue Ridge Parkway, follow it north and end up in Virginia. Not sure what route you are planning or how long you are planning on being gone, but these are a few stops that have great scenery, and great roads. Enjoy!
i have taken both interstate 30 east to interstate 40 east to interstate 81 north there realy was not a lot to see, interstate is lined with trees both sides and pretty much the same running interstate 20 east to interstate 59 north to interstate 81 north, the roads do get better when you start to head north, check with tourist information sites on the internet and plan your route according to what you want see along the way. if you do take 81 north into Pa you have to stop off at the Harley Davidson York Pa. assembly plant they run tours daily check the website for details. enjoy the trip you should have a great time if it is planned properly.
Rt 1 is a nice scenic ride up the coast, with plenty of 'tourist towns'
and 'fishing villages' to see......
If time allows, I'd follow Rt 1 to the Calais area where it intersects with Rt 9
and ride that back across to the Bangor area.
Rt 9 is 2 lane highway with long sweeping hills and curves....wide open
views.
