Question Maintenance advice needed....

I have an 05 FLHTI. I have 10,800 miles on it. I had it serviced last July just before I rode it the 1900 miles round trip to Sturgis. For numerous reasons too many to list (as you will get bored reading), I have only put about 150 miles on it this season. When it got serviced last year, the engine oil, primary oil and transmission oil was all changed. My question is, is it worth it for me this fall to get the 10K service done? Ive only had about 2000 miles on it since the last service so Im not sure its worth the $300 or if I should just get the oil changed. Thanks!!

Personally, I wouldn't worry about the service but I sure as hell wouldn't pay to have the fluids changed out. It's the easiest DIY job and you can feel good about doing it yourself and getting your hands dirty at the same time. That is cheap insurance.

I wanted to say also that my engine gets moisture on the outside of it (and I hate it) when there is temp change during winter...I struggle to the idea that is on the inside also I hope not but it may be...that is why I change the oil, I would hate to think I have water in there that does not belong...whatever though just my thoughts, can't prove any of it.

Don't start your bike in the winter unless your going for a ride. It doesn't get hot enough in the garage and it will draw moisture in !

If you ride it till it gets hot it will take care of the moisture whether it's old or new oil. If your worried about moisture after it's stored then you need to pull the plugs and squirt a little oil in each hole and turn it over a couple times.

Any service at Harley is a big waste of money if you ask me. I do all my own work cause I just can't seeing paying them to change oil, which takes me 20-30min for both, and to "check" the rest of the stuff. I check everything, just about everytime I was or clean my bike up.
You don't need to know much to change the oil, or many tools for that matter. And to check stuff, like the clutch - which means they check the clutch cable and makes sure it is working (duh-I would know if it wasn't), I just can't see paying them any money for it.
UNLESS you have enough money and just don't like doing it yourself. To me though, it is part of the whole riding experience. To know how your bike works, and make sure it is purring like a kitten is just part of the whole biker experience in my opinion. But I have been riding and doing all the work myself since I was old enough to do it.
It is different then my wife's and my truck, it is just cheaper and easier to have an indy do it.

I also like to "KNOW" that everything is done, and done RIGHT, when my life is on the line with my bike. I just can't help thinking the front wheel might fall off cause the guy at the dealer was hung over and didn't remember to torque the axle!!!!
Or like my buddies bike, they didn't check the spokes on his ride when he took it to the dealer to get a rear tire replaced and we were on a ride (5,000 miles round trip) and his back tire started going all over the place on the freeway on the 2nd day of riding (4-500 miles since my other buddy didn't check his chopper out and I had to work on it the whole ride) and he ended up having to buy a new rear wheel on the road since it stripped his spokes out.
Anyway - I like to KNOW for sure my bike is road worthy everytime I take it out.
