Default Improved stock shift linkage

Thanks to someone else's post I have put two spherical rod ends (heim joints) on the stock linkage rod on my 08SG.

I figured it would be one less thing to keep me on the road, and not off on the side of the road trying to jury-rig something.

I purchased two high end 5/16x24 spherical rod ends $12.45each. Two 5/16x24x1 inch grade 8 bolts, washers.

You can re-use the nut and washer off the front arm, but you will need a new bolt for the back arm.
I used blue lock-tite on the bolts and nuts.

I can't really tell that there is any difference in the way it shifts, but it definitely looks like a stronger set-up than the stock ends for about $27.00 Total.

2 ea 5/16-24 x 1 in hex cap screws (i used grade 5 stainless, not that much stress where you'll need grade 8, but you can if you want, but it costs more)
2 ea 5/16-24 jam nuts
1 ea 5/16-24 nylon lock nut

the bolt will thread into the lever on the transmission. but on the foot shift lever, the nylon lock nut holds the works together. all told, i spent less than 15.00 to do this. (i reused the stock linkage rod, but you can get a new spiffy one if you want. if you go that route, see if you can get one that is about 1/2 in shorter, that will give you more adjustment room)

Easy.

Take a pic and upload it from your camera to the computer. In a post (new or reply) click on the "manage attachments" button (about half way down the message page). Click the "browse" button and point it to the picture location. Click "upload", submit the message and you're done.

Everyone should move to a linkage with heim joints. It's more reliable than stock and removes slop for a better feel at the shifter. It looks better than stock, too.

Too bad you didn't take a picture of the parts before you put them on. Also you might want take a close up picture since my old eyes can't really see much difference between the stock joints and these although I know they are much better. Too bad Harley doesn't spend $5 more and correct this weak link.
