I'm not trying to start a war on which year is better. Just saying the one 09 I got to ride for a couple of miles (bike had 4 miles when they turned it over) had problems since it didnt ride as good as this 08 (tons of vibration when riding and brakes didnt stop well at all). Just want to be sure Im making the right decision before throwin down $20 large.

The dark side is calling loud and clear now! I was able to pack up my laptop,e tc and make a run to work to see how that went (I HATE wearing a backpack!), was able to go to the store for a new pair of pants for work and even stopped and picked up some Wendys for dinner on the way home, none of which I have ever been able to do on my Deluxe. The Glide begs to be taken on a trip.

Bikes are like ------, they are all good but some are better than others. Prior years are good, but 09's are better than others IMO. LOL!

I've rode a 09 EG Standard, and it was smooth, brakes were excellent. At idle it shook a bit but nothing that made you think, darn this really shakes. I could not feel the rough pavement really. The fifth gear did have a whine but I was only using it between 50-60 and hit 6th and it was quiet then. I did not feel any heat around my legs etc.

I was in the market for a FatBoy or a Heritage and they had a demo day and i rode a few bikes and really enjoyed the EG standard. It was about the same price as the Fatboy.

But I was thinking if i'm going to basically commute on it the FB might be the way to go, however it would have to have a windshield and bags so hmm. (I've never seen a person on a Harley have a backpack on -lol

You ought to try another 09 and see what's up as the 09's operation you describe sounds fishy.

Exactly!! Thats why I felt like such a dumb ***, but still at least I was able to ride to work.

I do plan to try another 09, hopefully tomorrow or Tuesday.

As far as your decision, I really think you should give the EG more consideration or you may be where I'm at right now in another year or so.

Well I had to take the SG back today, got about 250 miles in 24 hours which is much more than I would normally do on my Deluxe. Gonna be talking to the dealer this week. You can definitely feel the weight of the 800lb SG in very low speed maneuvers, but I have a feeling after a couple more days on one it wouldnt even be noticeable. Overall the SG is a wonderful machine!

I never really noticed the vibration with the counterbalanced motor before today after I got on my Deluxe again. So really both motors vibrate, just the CB motor doesnt do hardly any at idle. Also, yes as everyone says the Brembo brakes are MUCH better than the brakes on the other bikes hands down.

I finally got over to test ride the 09's today, an SG and an Ultra. Amazing how different they are from each other. The SG fells like you are "in" it, where the Ultra you feel like you are "on" it (I assume the Classic is the same as the Ultra). Wierd thing was I felt less vibration at idle and through the boards on teh Ultra than the SG, cant imagine why? It must be the way the Ultra is setup but I could REALLY feel the extra 70lbs sitting still or at very low speeds, but still amazing how they both ride / handle once moving.

I loved the Ultra's seat! And the fact that it isnt as wide as the front of the SG's seat. Are any of the aftermarket SG seats narrower at the front? Also loved the lowers, I can see where they would be nice on long rides or in cold weather. Overall the Ultra is amazing, but I would want another bike (which isnt happening now). The SG feels lighter, more "tossable" and quicker.

So there might be a Dark Blue Pearl 09 SG in my very immediate future.

Thumbs up

Glad to hear you got to ride a better 09 than the first one you rode. You should test ride a Road Glide before you make your final choice, LOL! Now go sell that Deluxe.
