Check out my photo gallery. I hate that stuff. I'm actually one of the HD owners that isn't all into "chrome". I've stripped a ton of crap off of my Road King Classic - including the bag guards, crash bars and rear bumper.

I did buy the HD support brackets - and ended up selling my guards to a Road Glide owner I think. You can post an ad in the for sale/wanted forum and see if anyone will do an even trade. I do that all the time. Just recently, I traded my mid-size sissy bar for a small / low profile one. Only paid a few bucks shipping.

Oh - and as for the bumper - if you have one and want to take it off, you'll need to pick up the bracket used on the street glides or (I think) Road King Custom.

The way I see it - if/when my bike falls over/goes down - the potential for things getting broken are big - regardless if I have guards or not. While many people talk about how they dropped thier bikes and the guards saved them ("not a scratch!") - I guarantee there are plenty of folks who have dropped their bikes and still busted up and scratched things and just haven't chimed in. It's a total crapshoot.

I love the look & feel of my bike - the way it is - without big shiny pieces of rounded metal sticking out the sides.

Talking Bag guards

Has anyone used the lower profile bag guards? I'd like some feedback if anyone has them, how much extra clearance do you gain? My girl's leg rubs on the bar now with the stock guards. I pic would be awesome..

thanks!!!

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't Marsh's sig pic have the "lower profile" bag gaurds on? I have also heard them refered to as "contoured bag gaurds" and "ergo bag gaurds", but I think that the ones on his sig pic are what you are refereing to.

I had mine removed before I left the dealer. No need to listen to Mama bitch because they rub the back of her leg. I'm happy.

I have a 2008 flhrc
I was hit broad side by a car the guard saved the bag and me I was able to lean the bike
scrape down the bumper with the guard and recover the bike. bent the guard
but probably saved my life, severe injury for sure. With no guard he would have
got the bike along with my leg

Laid my 2000 RK over once at low speed. Only damage was extremely minor scrapes on the left bottom side engine guard and bag guard. If they hadn't been on the bike I'd have been replacing at least one bag, and possibly some other stuff on the front end of the bike.

I put a set on my SG within a month of buying it. I'll never own a bike without them again.

different strokes.....I'm actually thinking about adding the guards off of an ultra to my RG. Guess that's what makes Harleys different from the others.

Anyone with an 09 looking to switch from the Electra Glide Standard guards to Street Glide style supports, please let me know...I am a few weeks from buying the guard kit, but would rather work a swap. Must be 09, since the frame and mounting points are different.
