Hello all,
New owner here of a 09 RK Classic. I am looking for some input on exhaust sound and performance. I want a deep aggressive growl without being obnoxiously loud. Looking to change after the 1000 mile service.
Thanks in advance for the help and advice.
If you search, you will find more info on this subject than you can read in a day. The best advice in all of them is be patient, go out and listen to the various options in real life and make YOUR decision. I really like my Rush mufflers, they sound great to me, but some say they are too loud, others to quiet, some say to low a tone, others too high. You get the picture. YOU need to find what is RIGHT FOR YOU.
Sound is VERY subjective. What I may like the sound of, you might hate. Now you've spent $600 or more on a system that you can't stand the sound of. Go out to a rally or gathering of bikes and listen to them, talk with the guys and decide for yourself.
Personally, I like the Bassani pipes.Good sound, not tinny or obnoctious loud, but I can set off car alarms from the left lane when I want to. I have the Bassani true deal head pipes with their 4" mufflers w/ 2.5" cores. Not sure if they are ready for the '09's yet, give them a look. Google the name, I forgot the site address.
Everyone has their own opinion. I love the sound of my Supertrapp slip-ons.....not to loud yet a deep, throbbing rumble of power from the 96 Harley motor.
I'm a fan of the Screaming Eagle touring slip ons. They are street legal (important here in Denver) and sound terrific without being overly loud. Nice sound on idle, loud when the throttle is cranked, and just a nice low rumble at highway speeds (no interference with the radio!).
As others have stated, patience and listen. You issue is that there are not a lot of 09's out there.
Doesn't matter what the year is, just be sure the engine is the same. The 96 inch engine is in all touring bikes since what 2006. The engine is what makes the sound, so if you see a bike with the 96 inch EFI engine it will make the same sound on your 2009 engine.
Just picked up my '09 SE Ultra and was shocked at how quiet the pipes are. I'm one who prefers to be heard well before I'm seen. Spoke with dealer and he's suggesting Vans, Cobra, or Bubb
Reading the other posts, nobody seems to mention these. Any comments on the above would be appreciated!!!
Thanks
