I have owned 3 Street glides. One of them is the wife's. After riding my buddies RG I am seriously considering trading in my 08 SG for the RG.
I have thought that the RG was ugly in the past, but the looks are growing on me and I really like the fact you are better protected, good handling, storage up front for misc.
I have over 10,000 miles on in the last 2 months and its time to trade!
Wish me luck, Hopefully the dealer will be kind in price.
All I can do is second the above comments. I traded from a 1998 RG to my current 2008 RG and my next bike would be a third one. I added the medium (stock +1 inch) clearview with recurve and do not feel a thing alomg with the poloice bars. I do have the fairing lowers and Ultra King Tour Pak as well. Don't need to mention all the other goodies. I would say get it but then again I'm prejudice.....LOL
Great bike and I love it EXCEPT for the head buffeting issue that a few have mentioned. I'm still trying to find a windshield that will solve that problem. Try one at freeway speeds before you buy.
I havent replaced the stock windshield on the 08 yet , but the 88 , when I had to replace it , I put the tallest one on Harley makes , is three inches or so taller than the one that comes on it ..
That did the trick , I was looking thru the windshield not over it ..
Rent them all... and ride them all.... what works for me, might not work for you
and besides... when you park a bat wing bike.... after you cross the street or parking lot you have to look a while before you SEE your bike.... with a gawd-awful road glide... it'll stick out like a sore thumb....
Lots of opinions and I agree with most of them. I love my RG and have not met a person yet that has one and wants to change. The only thing I'd change about mine would cost $20,000 to upgrade to the new Screaming Eagle CVO.
As a big guy, the RG fits me a lot better than the batwing models. The windshield is not right in your face, the gauges point at you, not at your belly button. Plus, to me, the RG looks modern and dare I say it, sportier. Handling is superb for a 800lb tank. I regularily ride with a guy who owns a Honda VFR750, and while I can't beat him in the twisties, I'm never that far behind.
The stock windshield, for a tall guy, sucks. Way too much buffeting. Even the HD tall windshield generates too much buffeting going into the wind at 120kph. Next season I will try a Clearview -- I hear those are the best for RG. Other than that, its an awesome bike that I will have for a long time.
