Cheating on her...
I aint posted in a while, been busy riding. But I gotta get this off my chest.
I have had my 06 RK Custom for almost 3 years and 26K miles, and loved each and every minute. I was happy and content in a stable relationship with her. We were truly one. I managed to ignore that little voice in the back of my head saying "you bought the wrong bike"
Then a good buddy brought home a 08 Street Glide. Smooth. Sexy. Blacker than my mother-in-laws heart. 96in. 6 speed. 6 gallon tank. {sigh} I was happy for him on the outside, but inside I was torn with jealosy. That little voice grew louder.
But we rode on. I tried to tell myself that any uneducated fool could by a 'glide, but it took a man of class and distinction to buy a Road King Custom. All lies, of course. But I was commited to making the best of it.
Then Harley has to go and make all those changes for '09. I found myself lingering on the web looking over the specs. I drove by the dealer on the way home from work many times (even though its 20 miles the other direction), but never managed to stop in for fear of what would happen. I knew the new 'Glides would make my Custom look like a plate of puke.
But eventually I stopped. And rode one. And before too long, I found myself calling the bank to check on the payoff on the custom. In evidence that God enjoys when people are conflicted, when all is said and done, I could slide out of the custom, and into a new 'Glide for the same monthly payment.
What to do, what to do. Go with the one that supported you for so long, or toss her aside like so much trash and go with something newer and flashier. ARRRGGG! I hate these kinds of decisions.
Tim
P.S. My new glide is scheduled to be in around the middle of October. I hope my freinds will all still talk to me.

i feel your struggle brother, I too went thru the same trials and tribs... Needless to say the street glide won! However it didn't come without consequence I have a court order to spend equal amounts of time with each of my women, (i knw I'm such a *****)....... lol! CONGRATS!!!!
Yeah, thats what I am afraid of. Got one more trip to Gatlinburg scheduled on the old girl for the first weekend in October.
The way my luck goes, she'll leave me hanging on a tree near Gravity Cavity if she found out.

Hey look at it this way. After you discard her, casting her off for a much more attractive and younger ride. Some guy will come along and sweep her off her kick stand, and the love affair will continue, she going her way and you going your way, but both riding off into the sunset happy ever after.

Went through the same delema a couple weeks ago. Couldn't let the RKC go to a foster home, so I bit the bullet and bought the RG too! I will keep my classic even when I get too old to ride, I will just look at her and polish her up once in a while.
Have fun on your ride,congrats.

You answered your own question - MONTHLY PAYMENT FOR HOW MANY MORE MONTHS? Life is so much easier when you own your Putt...
How much cheaper is it to hang a fairing - Do a 95 kit & Baker 6... And you'll run circles around the 96" - No Heat Issues - and it's YOURS!

Anyway, I just prefer to leave them mechanically stock. I am sure there are many fine aftermarket parts available, with superior quality out there. But some of us dont care a whit about HP or TQ numbers and just want a nice reliable ride.
You make valid points, but dont worry about me, I wont miss any meals.

I hear ya, and I feel the love. My baby is the same way, and I hate the thoughts of throwing her over for a new ride. As much as I want one, there's something about the relationship bonded for years that can never be replaced. Probably why I've been married for 42 years... Go figure. I just keep investing in the old instead of the new. But maybe if my bride up and leaves me, I'll buy a new ULTRA....
