Can anyone give some feedback on a Sundowner (52093-08) seat for my 08 Ultra. Local dealer can't seem to keep them on the shelf so they must be pretty comfortable.
I have a sundowner on my FLHX...more comfortable, by far, for me than the stock. Softer (after break in) yet more support in small of back and wider support at hipbones...
I ve ridden near 600 miles in a day with no problems...I do not use a back rest..never have and I expect, never will.
I have one on my SG and I agree it is comfortable.
I did have an issue with the back bracket that screws to the rear fender. One of the bolts that hold the bracket to the seat was touching the fender and left a U-shaped scar. I had to grind the head of that bolt to clear and now all is well.
I have also read about those that say the seat rubbed on their side covers. Mine was fine there.
I just put one on my 08' Street Glide. I like it much better than the stock seat and the one that I put on is HD's new Sundowner that was specifically designed for the SG. As for the stock seat....it is fine for up to about 3 hours....then you need a rest. The Sundowner I have not reached my time limit on it yet, but I am sure I could go 5 hours. The thing was the passenger area of the stock unit was just too small for my girl friend.....and she is only about 5'2" 115LBS. Now since I got her the Sundowner she loves it and is willing to go just as far on the bike as I want to go......and it fits me a bit better also, so its a win win. Now I have to install the passenger footboards and transfer the Centerline rear pegs to serve as highway pegs. I did move the passenger pegs up one hole on the bracket, but she still complains that the back of her leg is rubbing against the saddle bag crash bars I installed. HD does sell a reduced reach passenger footboard mount that raises up the footboard 2.5 inches.....so between the higher rear foorboards, and the new Sundowner seat, I think that should do it as far as she is concerned......unless she starts wanting a back rest.....then its back rests for both of us!
Hey bdp,
I'm going to be honest with you. I had a Sundowner on my Lowrider that was perfect for me. I wasn't happy with the stock seat on my '08 Road Glide so I bought a Sundowner seat for it but after 500 miles, I wasn't that happy with it...it felt a little 'soft'. I then bought a Mustang which is more firm and I'm happy with. I'm looking to sell the Sundowner for $200 + shipping which I guess is anywhere from $15-25.??? (From NJ). Like I said, I only had it on the bike for about 500 miles so it is in brand new condition. I can send you pictures if you're interested...I've been planning to list it on Ebay anyway.
