The only problem I've encountered wity my 06 EGC is that I can't find enough time to ride. I've got almost 8k miles on it but it seems like I never ride. This is my 5th Harley and my first in the touring line. A couple of friends rag me about the "old man " bike, I'm 39, but thats ok. My EGC is Brandywine with SE exhaust. Detach tour pack. I dig the flame accessories so you know what's on my scoot. Also running the SERT. Oh and BTW, did I mention that all my other friends that ragged me about the old man bike can't do anything but look at my personalized plate when we are out riding. Wasn't always that way. One of them actually pulled off my side cover looking for a PC III, SUCKER !! Enjoy that EG rider. Happy trails.
Broke Back mountain, thats funny! LOL
Unfortunatly HD sells over 300K bikes a year so they can get top dollar.
I installed the detachable tour pack hardware myself, its a chrome puzzle. I also installed the hardware
for the detachable sissy bar. it was chrome puzzle #2. But I'm an automotive tech by trade and a do it
your -selfer at heart so I tackled it myself. I also refuse to pay someone else to do what I can do.
HD is required to meet federal emissions standards so their bikes run extremly lean. All new motorcycles run lean
due to the EPA regs but it is not as obvious on the 4 cylinder bikes. In the future all harleys will be injected and down
the road water cooled bikes will be the norm. THANKS EPA.
I rented several bikes before I bought my e-glide clasic. I bought it for my wifes comfort, long distance
touring and because I like the radio/cd player and full gauges. The ambient temp gauge is useless though
due to the fact the sensor is inside of fairing and besides you are outside in the air anyway.
the themometer is cheaper for HD to manufacture and install than a useful oil temp gauge. But you can get a
oil temp gauge through harley for $140 or so.
I am very pleased with my model choice and I am planning on a round trip to PA in late June.
A couple of add ons I like on my classic are:
Rinehart pipes
Power Commander III
Detachable tour pak
detachable backrest
a couple different windshields for different rides (short smoked and original)
HogTunes Speakers
I have an 05 EG Classic - Has about 6500 miles. So far I have had no issues. I feel like I am rare because I got the stage one, K&N Filter, and HD Download and it worked great. I also had gear driven cams put in and now it is perfect for me as I didn't see me doing a big bore kit or anything like that. Other add-on's include Python pipes (Great pipes for the money) adjustable detachable backrest (A great option to have!), Mini Beast II airhorn, Fairing Mirrors, Sirius Satellite radio and various chrome - Have an 8" windshield now but after having the 12 and the 8 at least I found out that the 10 would be perfect - Either way you go you are going to have fun - One thing I have learned here is that there are two approaches - Some folks take their time and do their planning and seem to make few mistakes. Some others, and I fall into this category, pull the trigger too soon and end up doing double work or spending money they shouldn't have. My point is that there is no shame picking up and riding a stock bike a bunch of miles before deciding what changes and mods you want to make. The only advantage I see to making changes right away is that the dealer will warranty anything put on before delivery
Regarding Price - Each geo area seems to be different so shop as you would for any large ticket item in your area. I live in NJ and paid full list. I Didn't get anything thrown in either. Some folks here paid just under list and got a discounts on parts etc....
Good luck and keep us posted! - kess
Well, if all goes well and the truck doesn't breakdown, I'll be riding the 06 EG Classic (Black Cherry) tomorrow night. The options I have already purchased are the tour pak quick detach kit and antenna mount relocation kit. The next items to come after the 1000 mile check/break-in will be the SE air cleaner, Python touring slip-ons and PCIII. Now, I'm still a bit undecided on the slip-ons and PCIII. I still may go with the V&H fuelpak. As for the slip-ons, I don't want loud but just a bit louder than stock. The only other items I plan on getting are foot pegs and grips (if I don't like the stock ones). Also, a Jagg oil cooler since it gets quite toasty here in Arizona. Thanks Terry, Kess, Matt and all for your info. This is an excellent site and I know I would highly recommend it to other HD riders.

I have an '06 EGC and I love it. I have had no issues with it since I bought it new in September '05. It just turned 35865 today. I will be changing out the cam tensioners to the newer design in the near future.
