Re; Doug at HQ
In reply to Forum Member;
It's funny you pm'd, as I just talked with Doug this afternoon. Originally I was going to put in HQ-0034's and a 95". I have a budget, and don't need a HP monster. So I was just going to have the heads worked over and comp. releases installed to save the starter as many of my friends with 95" have learned the hard way.The first time when I had talked to him on the phone, he said that going the route I wanted was an ok mild build and had no objections. Since then I have emailed Doug, and he said they don't do that and that that was "amatuer at best". (That's what Caught me off guard). I talked with him today about a full HQ-0039 build, and pricing for it, and it's over my budget, but not unreasonably. It's between HQ0034/39 or S&S 570. I was considering Woods Tw6, but it's too much $$$ for me, no matter what Indy I choose.
I hope I did not come across as slagging Doug, although I was a little irked, I have no problems with the man and respect him for what he's accomplished. When I spoke to him today, he was cordial and receptive to what I wanted out of a build.
Cheers,
Brian
I saw that comment from Doug (amateur at best) on the HQ forum, and I believed he was referring to 'amateur headwork', not that going that route made you an amateur. I wouldn't be offended by it if I were you.
HQ delivers the numbers they do by putting a complete package together. Their complete package requires you to use heads that fit their requirements in order to deliver to you what they promise. You don't want to do a mish-mash of different components.
Many folks here will tell you that it's less expensive to do it right the 1st time, then throw good money after bad to arrive at what you expected to get the first time around.
H***, let's just hookup the next decent day and I'll let you see what you think of my 95 so you can get a gauge on whether that's what you want, or whether you want more. Just PM me.
